Coyote (Canis Latrans) is a wild canine native to North America. This species is able to adapt to environments modified by humans and are found within central American and south into Mexico. As of 2005 there are 19 known subspecies all relatively small, weighing at most 44 lbs. The coyote is a prominent character in Native American Folklore, often depicted as a trickster.
